Education in the Midst of a Military Coup d'etat. 03/12/2021

While every other school, both private and government are closed in Myanmar; I am proud to say that the Esther Project is able to reach the children of so many orphanages.  Without the continued support we receive from our donors, none of the children would have access to the education they need most.  It is encouraging, amazing and also a little sad (due to the situation in Myanmar) to see the tremendous increase in the number of children who have joined the Esther Project over the past year.

Since the protest against the military coup began there has not been a single day without protests during the day and pot banging every night to defy the military coup.   More than 70 protestors have been killed, hundreds of protestors and activists have been arrested, and millions of dollars of private properties have been destroyed.

Roads are frequently blocked due to the protestors and the military which made getting to the individual orphanages both hazardous and frequently inaccessible on direct routes, or secondary routes, resulting in long detours.  While we face challenges in reaching each of the orphanages, the happiness I have upon seeing the children makes every difficulty we face worth it.

Yet, none of these have stopped the team of Esther Project in Myanmar from pursuing our objective.  Our spirit is high because we get to daily experience, see, and hear the children’s enthusiasm for learning,  which makes us more determined to push forward to provide the children with the skills and education they deserve.

We are grateful that we have been able to kick-off classes for another program year, and for God’s protection and His providence as we focus on our calling to make a positive impact on the children and our country.
