Our Mission
Rooted in faith and moved by compassion, The Esther Project walks alongside orphaned and underprivileged children of Myanmar — nurturing their hearts, minds, and spirits so they can grow into their fullest potential and live with confidence, dignity, and purpose.
The Learning Centers
The Esther Project exists to give vulnerable children something many have never had before: real hope and a tangible future. We are the only year-round vocational training program of our kind in Myanmar — with paid, dedicated staff equipping orphaned and displaced children in English and computer science, skills essential not only for passing national exams, but for building sustainable, independent lives.
Today, we serve more than 1,000 students across 12 learning centers, partnering with 40 orphanages and 2 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps throughout 7 townships. What began as a vision has grown into a proven, replicable model of transformation.

School Curriculum
Our curriculum is built around two of the most powerful and practical skills a young person can have in today’s world: English and computer training. These are opportunities typically reserved for those who can afford private education. Through The Esther Project, they are placed in the hands of those who need them most.
We provide daily classes during Myanmar’s school break from March through May, and weekend classes throughout the rest of the year. This consistent, year-round model ensures that students never stop growing, learning, and preparing for their future.
English Program
Our English program uses a learner-centered, highly interactive approach specifically designed for native Burmese speakers. Rather than rote memorization, we focus on building genuine confidence through real communication.
Each lesson blends:
- Practical language use
- Intensive guided practice
- Engaging, activity-based learning
- Clear, measurable daily goals
Beyond language acquisition, students develop critical thinking and the reading and listening strategies that prepare them for higher education and professional environments — opening doors that were previously closed to them.
Computer Skills Training
For many of our students, their first encounter with technology happens right here in our classrooms. What begins with curiosity quickly becomes confidence.
Our instructors start with the fundamentals — how to turn on a computer, how to use a mouse — and steadily guide students toward practical, employable skills including:
- Typing and digital literacy
- Microsoft Word and Excel
- Photo editing and graphic design
- Desktop publishing
By the end of the program, students are not just users of technology. They are creators — equipped with skills that employers value and that open real doors to economic independence.
Vocational Skills Training
We believe that every child is different, and that not all futures look the same. That is not a problem — it is a strength.
We offer every student a foundation that prepares them for the world as it actually is. Our English Language programme builds confident communicators — students who can read critically, write clearly, and speak with purpose. Whether a student goes on to university, enters a trade, or launches a business, the ability to express themselves fluently opens doors that skill alone cannot.
In today's world, digital literacy is not optional. Our Computer Training programme equips students with practical technology skills — from basic computing and word processing to internet navigation, data entry, and introductory coding. These are the building blocks of the modern workplace, and we ensure every student leaves school able to work confidently in a digital environment.
For those with an entrepreneurial spirit, our Business Training programme introduces the fundamentals of financial literacy, bookkeeping, customer service, and small enterprise management. We believe that a student who understands how money works, how markets function, and how to manage a simple operation has a powerful advantage — whether they are employed by someone else or building something of their own.
For students drawn to hands-on, practical work, we offer vocational pathways in carpentry and farm and agricultural management. These programmes provide income-generating skills that create pathways to immediate employment and long-term financial stability.
Together, these pathways reflect a single conviction: that every student, regardless of their academic journey, deserves to leave with something valuable in their hands — and in their mind.
Mentoring Program
Education opens doors — but mentorship helps young people walk through them with confidence.
As students age out of orphan care, the transition into adulthood can feel overwhelming and isolating. Our Mentoring Program walks alongside them during this critical season, providing:
- Life skills training
- Career planning and job readiness
- Personal ethics and leadership development
- Advanced English instruction
We partner with local community leaders, business professionals, and NGO networks to create real, tangible opportunities. As a result, many of our students successfully move into jobs, internships, and apprenticeship programs — stepping confidently and purposefully into the next chapter of their lives.
Clean Water — Bio-Sand Filters
In Myanmar, fewer than one in three households has water on-site, leaving most families reliant on wells and surface sources riddled with contamination. For children in orphanages and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, this means daily exposure to waterborne illness that is entirely preventable. The Esther Project is changing that — one filter at a time. Bio-sand filters use layered sand, gravel, and charcoal to eliminate up to 99% of harmful bacteria and contaminants, delivering safe drinking water with no electricity and minimal upkeep. Each system produces over 250 gallons of clean water daily and can last 20 to 30 years.
The impact reaches far beyond thirst. Fewer sick days mean more school days. Freed from the burden of finding safe water, children can focus on learning — and on their futures. Built from local materials and designed for community maintenance, these filters foster ownership and lasting self-sufficiency. Clean water is more than a necessity. It is dignity, health, and hope made tangible.
Emergency Food Support
Conflict and economic collapse have left thousands of children in Myanmar facing daily uncertainty about whether they will eat. Rising prices and broken supply chains have pushed many orphanages to the edge of what they can provide.
The Esther Project steps into that gap. What began as crisis response has become a steady lifeline — delivering rice, cooking oil, and essential staples directly to orphanages when shortages strike and few others can help. Sourced through local partners wherever possible, this support strengthens community supply networks while meeting urgent needs fast.
The difference is visible: children who once went hungry now eat regularly, regaining strength, focus, and the ability to fully engage in school and daily life. Caregivers, relieved of the weight of food insecurity, can turn their full attention to nurturing the children in their care.
In the hardest moments, food is more than sustenance — it is stability, and a sign that someone cares.
Emergency Medical Support
For children in Myanmar’s orphanages and displacement camps, even routine illness can turn life-threatening without timely care. Hospitals are often unreachable. Medical supplies are scarce. The gap between need and help can be the difference between recovery and tragedy.
The Esther Project fills that gap. Working closely with local caregivers to identify needs quickly, the organization provides emergency medical support — treating infections, addressing injuries, and responding to sudden health crises with both resources and compassion.
Children recover faster. Complications are caught early. Caregivers gain the peace of mind that help is available when it matters most.
Emergency medical care is not just a response — it is a declaration that every child’s life has value. Through this work, The Esther Project brings healing and hope to Myanmar’s most vulnerable children, one life at a time.
